15. What is an Air Filter and How does It Work?

An air filter is a device used to filter and purify compressed air. It is generally referred to as a high-efficiency precision filter installed in the compressed air system pipelines.
Typically, the filter element of a filter is made of materials such as fiber media, mesh, and sponge. Solid and liquid particles in the compressed air are intercepted by the filtering material and condensed on the surface of the filter element (both inside and outside). The accumulated liquid droplets and impurities on the surface of the filter element are then separated by the force of gravity and settle at the bottom of the filter, where they are discharged either through an automatic drain or manually.
